Summer workouts can be almost as difficult as winter workouts when the weather is not perfectly moderated or motivating.

We’re well into summer now, and that temperature seems to just keep on rising and rising! Its great when you’ve got a day at the beach planned, but the weather can often be problematic for the summer workouts of our fitness regime.

When we workout, our body is under a lot of stress. When we workout in excessive heat, that stress is increased and can sometimes be unbearable.

Drink Water All Day

Normally, you might just have a glass of water before you head out for your workout and then drink again once you have finished.

However, now that it is so hot outside, you need to make sure that you are drinking all day, and not just right before you start exercising.

When it is hot, your body will need a lot more fluids than usual, and with summer workouts that fluid requirement will increase once more.

Change Your Exercise

Do you normally go jogging or enjoy riding your bicycle? These are both quite high-endurance sports, and will put a lot of stress on your body.

On days when it is excessively hot, it’s a good idea not to do these kinds of summer workouts as it all may be a bit too much on your body.

Instead, head to one of the pools on aquabliss.com.au so you can cool off in the water while you workout. Swimming is a great all-body exercise, and you won’t overheat while you’re doing it!

Workout In The Coolest Part Of The Day

It’s a good idea to stay inside during the middle of the day when the sun will be at its brightest and the temperatures at their highest.

Ideally, you should move your summer workouts so that you are doing them early in the morning or in the evenings. It will be a lot cooler while the sun is coming up or going down, so you shouldn’t feel the effects of a hot day too much!

Sites like sa.gov.au will have all of the latest sunrise and sunset times so that you can plan your workouts.

Wear Light-Coloured, Loose Clothing

When you are exercising in the summer months, you should try and stay away from skin-tight pieces of clothing.

You should instead loose-fitting clothing as this will help your skin breathe easier. It will also lift sweat off your skin, so you don’t feel too sweaty!

Make sure your clothes are light too, as light colours will reflect the sun’s rays away from you. Dark clothes actually absorb the sun’s light, and they will quickly heat up.

Working out in the summer heat doesn’t have to be dangerous – as you can see, there are plenty of ways that will help you stay safe while you work out, no matter how hot it gets!
